"Flowers Power": the photo competition organized as part of the Floralies in Antibes continues this Sunday, at the Jardin d'Eden

The photographs will soon be hung around the Garden of Eden. Photos A. Ci.

Jean Cordonnier expertly analyzes the forty-five flower photographs exhibited at the Jardin d'Eden, in the Marenda-Lacan district of Antibes, most of which were taken using macro photography. "I have 45 years of experience behind me. Most of the images are very pretty, but I must say that some lack sharpness [i.e., sharpness and precision, Ed.], " notes kindly the man who came down "specially" from the Semboules district to admire the exhibition this Saturday.

Organized by the Antibes Photo Club association, the event—part of the Floralies (which continues until May 25)—is centered around the theme "Flowers Power": a nod to the expression born in the sixties, a symbol of the hippie movement and non-violence.

Clichés that make sense

Amidst buds and insects immortalized in their natural element, some photographers, on the contrary, have opted for symbolic staging... and engagement. Here, a pistol whose barrel lets an orange flower emerge, like a harmless explosion; there, petals scattered among cartridge cases; or, more enigmatic, a man sheltered under an umbrella, in the center of a field of poppies, etc. Like so many harsh critiques of the war. These photos are still visible today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The three photos acclaimed by the public will be awarded at 4 p.m., directly in the garden.
